Glade Park offers a slower pace of life, wide open spaces and is surrounded by the beauty of the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area, Piñon Mesa, and Colorado National Monument. The town was originally called ‘Big Park’, but in 1910 the first postmistress, Jennie M France was told that there were too many towns by that name, so she instead came up with the name Glade Park. The town uses zip code 81523 and is situated about 16 miles west of Grand Junction at an elevation of 7,000 feet.
The hud of the community is the the Glade Park general store which is the only retail establishment in the area. There is also a post office, community center which is located in an old school, and a volunteer the Glade Park Fire department. Every summer on Friday nights, the fire department hosts “Movies Under the Stars”, in which families all over the Grand Valley come to enjoy a kid-friendly movie.
Most homes for sale in Glade Park are ranch and 2-story style single family homes set upon 10+ acres of land. Since the area was the former western Colorado ranching and farming community, there are some older ranches and farms that came be found as well. Many residents commute to Grand Junction for work, groceries, dining, car repairs, and other necessities. Glade Park is a popular comping destination in the summer months since it is generally 10 degrees cooler than the valley. Mud Springs offers a paved campground with some amenities, Miracle Rock is a great recreation area, and Enoch Lake is a great place for a picnic. The majority of the area is private land, so remember to respect the land owners property.
