The Grand Valley is known for its large variety of orchards, vineyards, and farms, but very few allow visitors to pick their own produce. Fruit Basket Orchards is the exception, in which they welcome visitors to pick the tantalizing fruit off the trees. Their u-pick fruit orchard is open to the public Fridays and Saturdays from 9am-4pm throughout the Summer and Fall.
They offer lower prices than most local grocery stores and fruit stands, because they don’t have to pay someone to pick the fruit, wash it, and then sell it. It is the customers job to be the harvester, so they are able to pass that savings on and make their produce reasonably cheap.
Throughout the summer I have visited the u-pick fruit orchard numerous times and have been able to enjoy a wide array of produce as it ripens. They offer u-pick fruit for cherries, peaches, plums, strawberries, raspberries, grapes, and apples. Generally, they open in mid-June through mid-November.
